Real Weddings | Madison + Colten | August 12, 2018

You’ve heard of high school sweethearts, right? But have you ever heard of elementary school sweethearts? You may be about to meet your first.

Madison and Colten Fulton’s love story began after they first locked eyes in Kindergarten! Twenty years later, every detail of their wedding day was designed to showcase their long-time-coming forever union. Madison was kind enough to share with us what went into creating their carefree and beautiful day. Enjoy!

From Madison:

True story: Colten and I grew up less than a mile from each other. We started as kindergarten friends and then the crush became real in third grade. Before you knew it, we were sharing our college years together at A&M. After a summer where I worked at an internship out of state and Colten studied abroad in Africa, we decided we would never spend a second apart again. We were just so excited to celebrate what the Lord had been forming for so many years.

When dreaming up our wedding we wanted it to be the most fun celebration, one that really showed our personalities. Colten is creative, selfless and relaxed. I am more outgoing and traditional. We wanted to find ways to highlight both. I wanted to maintain the beauty of the space in the Laurel by keeping our decorations simple and classic.

When I say we kept it simple, I mean my best friend made the wedding signs, and we had a different friend design invitations. It was less about being perfect and more about finding a balance of cohesion that we loved through all of our different details.

Throughout the day I had giddy nerves. The morning flew by as I was just trying to soak up each moment with my girls. They mean everything to me — my biggest cheerleaders, encouragers, and supporters. I am a better daughter, sister and now wife because of them. I just felt so bridal, so beautiful in that moment with [them and] my mom who played the biggest role in making this wedding so dreamy.

As soon as Colten and I saw each other we just felt thankful, affirmed, and like we had waited over 20 years for this special moment. Finally seeing each other and getting a few moments together before everyone arrived was a gift.

The Laurel was the perfect canvas for our wedding. Because of our history together, we have a BIG support system. Most of our guests had known us together for almost 20 years, so we desired a space for our 250 guests to feel included and comfortable.

Having all of our most favorite people in one room cheering us on as we walked down the aisle as husband and wife for the first time — this is a moment I will never forget.

Every part of our reception was a dream. Our amazing huge head table, sharing our first bites of cake, hugging all of our guests, lots and lots of dancing and even passing out Whataburger for a late night snack!

But our absolute favorite part of this night was our private last dance — no pictures, no one in the room just Colten and I, listening to Band of Gold together, looking at this room that was just filled with ALL of our favorite people. We both cried like babies, that’s for sure.

During the wedding planning I was actually in school still. I graduated and walked the stage TWO DAYS before the wedding. So I mean it when I say, our day wouldn’t have been so special without our vendors. First, the Laurel — the perfect location for the BEST celebration and our planner, Tzahhia — who was creative, consistent, and so extraordinary. Our photographer, Jenna Routh, who truly cannot take a bad photo and makes every bride feel their best. Our florist, Petals Couture, made our floral dreams come true. I still die when I think about how beautiful the flowers were that day. Our DJ, Jake Haans with LeForce Entertainment, who kept the party going all night. And so many more who made our day so special. We couldn’t have done this without any of them. We can never say thank you enough for how each vendor supported us as we became the Fultons.

Thank you, Madison, for sharing your beautiful wedding day with us. We wish you all the best in the years to come!
