First Anniversary | Bailey + Tim | January 18, 2020
One year ago, we celebrated with Bailey and Tim as they became husband and wife and danced the night away under a canopy of greenery. From beginning to end, their romantic winter wedding day at The Laurel was pure magic filled with unique details, lush florals, and most evidently- lots of love.
To celebrate their first anniversary, we were able to talk with Bailey and Tim about their favorite memories from the day. Enjoy!
From Bailey:
Tim & I met while we were both living in College Station in 2015. I was a student at Texas A&M and was working part time at a country club there in town. Tim was working and would come a few times a week for dinner or drinks with his coworkers after work. I would often spend way too much time talking to Tim instead of working. We exchanged numbers and after the first date we pretty much spent all our time together. I graduated in 2016 and instead of moving away like most people do after graduation I decided that it was worth it to stick around for another year to see how things progressed with Tim & I. The idea of not living in the same town just didn’t seem very enjoyable to us. Tim was truly the happiest, most loving and fun person I had ever met. I knew I didn’t want to live far away from him. Well, I ended up staying longer than a year and Tim proposed in December of 2017 (most perfectly planned out surprise of my life). When we finally started wedding planning we randomly picked January 18, 2020 to be married since it was available at the Laurel. Little did we know at the time but that random day was the biggest blessing since COVID pretty much shut down the world about 1-2 months later.
The first thing I told my wedding planner, Molly with Pop Parties, was that I wanted to have so much greenery incorporated into the decoration. Flowers too, of course, but I wanted it to be a little different than just typical flowers everywhere. I basically wanted guests to feel like they were surrounded by nature when they were really in the middle of DFW. I also wanted all guests to be comfortable no matter what, meaning not super formal and fancy but also far from casual. Needless to say it was so perfect & more than I could have imagined.
I did not want the added stress of hoping for nice weather on our wedding day so I really wanted to find a venue that had a beautiful indoor ceremony and reception space. For the ceremony I really wanted a chapel more than anything. When we found the Laurel and I saw the Chapel that actually felt like a chapel (if that makes sense) and had trees outside the window instead of a parking lot like a few we had seen, I knew it was the one. Everything was right there in the same building but also had the feeling of being secluded and not in the middle of a busy hotel or something.
I was so nervous all day!! I'm not even sure why because I was also so ready and excited to be married. I was just so emotional and overwhelmed that my wedding day was actually here. I wish I would have been able to relax a bit more, but oh well. It was awesome to have my mom, sisters, bridesmaids, soon to be sister in laws & mother in law with me hanging out and getting ready all day. Tim on the other hand was his typical relaxed and happy self. He and his groomsmen had a relaxing day hanging out and going out to lunch, showing up just in time to change and freshen up before pictures!
Other than finally getting to be married to each other, having all of our favorite people in the entire world under one roof for the first time ever meant more to Tim & I than anything else. One of my favorite moments was in the middle of the reception Tim & I walked in from outside and took a moment to just look around. We had been told by so many people that the day goes by so fast and to try to really take it all in. So every time we did that and just took a moment to realize “dang, this is it! This is our wedding, these are our people and we are married!” it was so memorable and amazing.
To see the dance floor with our friends and family having the time of their lives and dancing with one another was the neatest thing. It was just so cool to see friends and family that would never imagine getting to meet, all hanging out and having a blast together.
I also really loved that we decided to do a family style dinner, where all the food was placed on each table in bowls that were passed around and shared. It was a great way to have everyone start talking and interacting at their tables if they didn’t know others. I liked being able to look around during dinner and see the bowls being passed, kinda made it feel like a big happy family.
Also the tree centerpieces on a few of the tables were a HUGE hit. It was so awesome to have something so beautiful and unique to our wedding that everyone seemed to love and notice as much as we did.
As cheesy as it sounds, the day was absolutely magical. As a girl, you think about your wedding day so much growing up so it's easy to worry about it being everything you dreamed it would be. If I could get my wish and relive that entire day I wouldn’t change anything about it, that's how absolutely perfect and beautiful it was.
To future couples, try your absolute hardest to just relax and enjoy the day leading up to your wedding. I wish I wouldn’t have been so nervous all day because there was no reason to be. I wasn’t nervous about everything going smoothly, since we had the BEST wedding planner ever, I was just so emotional and overwhelmed which typically makes me nervous. So just sit back, take it all in and know the day is going to be perfect.
Also there is a reason everyone says stuff like “enjoy the day! It goes by so fast” because it is so so so true. You are walking down the aisle and next thing you know, you are being told it's time for your exit!
Bailey and Tim, we are so thankful we were able to play a part in your perfect day. We wish you all the best in years to come!
