Real Weddings || April + Bryan || January 7, 2017

No matter how hard you try, what is the one thing you cannot control about your wedding day?

The weather.

But for April and Bryan Mikaelian, a winter wedding made for a perfect backdrop to the warmth and love that was found inside. Because, like J.R.R. Tolkien said, “Deep roots are not touched by the frost.” While frost glistened outside The Laurel on January 7, 2017, these two newlyweds could not have been more content.

April and Bryan were kind enough to share memories of their wedding day with us.

I had noticed the Laurel, originally, when we first started the wedding planning process back in the summer of 2015. We wanted a venue that would give the appearance of our taste in homes, sort of a lodge feel but not overly masculine. We both love that Texas style — lots of woodwork, great outdoor living spaces, natural light. The venue, in a lot of ways, needed to be an extension of our personalities.

We also wanted a venue that would make our guests comfortable. After touring and meeting with the staff and owners, I knew The Laurel was the place for our wedding.

Three of our favorite things about our wedding were the decor and how the entire wedding design came together, the guests’ reactions to everything, and our cake.

The weather was perfect for what we were wanting. It was very cold the morning of the wedding but as the day went on, it got much better. Having the fireplaces made it comfortable for our guests that wanted to go outside and the ice and snow made for great pictures.

We wanted a winter wedding with the appropriate temperatures — instead of a winter wedding where everyone would wear shorts!

My favorite part of the day was when we were introduced as husband and wife for the first time. Seeing the entire room and all our friends’ and family’s reactions was a memorable moment that we will always cherish.

Everything was perfect! We couldn’t have asked for better customer service and ease in the planning process. There wasn’t a single part of the process where we felt The Laurel would drop the ball.

Our wedding was absolutely amazing because of the beautiful backdrop of The Laurel and their amazing service.
