Real Wedding || Jamie + Helm || March 6, 2016

Wedding planning often starts with enough energy to move mountains, but somewhere along the way that energy begins to waver. When you are in the midst of planning, to keep that energy running high until the end, it’s helpful to simply be reminded that your special day will soon arrive.

And we have the proof! Our Real Weddings posts are our way of encouraging you along your way. Our hope is each one will spark creativity for your own wedding details, and prove the energy you are putting forth now, is well worth it.

Allow us to introduce you to Jamie and Helm Donahue. Their outdoor wedding was on March 6th at The Laurel. We had the pleasure of hearing from Jamie about their wedding-day experience, and how much they look back on it with nothing but joy.

We’d love to let Jamie tell their Real Wedding story.

Back in fall of 2014, a small group of us got together weekly to try new restaurants in Dallas. It was not meant to be a set up, but after meeting Helm the first week, I turned to my friend and said, "If he asked me out, I wouldn't say no!”

The following August, Helm read 1 Corinthians 13 out loud to me, said a bunch of really sweet and kind things that I cannot remember at ALL, got down on one knee, and proposed! I squealed, and said “yes.”

Fast Forward to March 6th, 2016 . . .

We know weddings can be stressful for everyone, and we made a decision from day one that we wanted our wedding to be a blessing to everyone who was involved — our parents, our wedding party, and our families.

[We chose an outdoor wedding] because of the light! I wanted natural light for our ceremony, and the Laurel has a beautiful outdoor green space that fulfilled that vision. [The Laurel also had] a phenomenal back-up in the chapel — not many places that we looked at had the capacity for both.

It was really kind-of overwhelming to realize that everyone is there to celebrate you and your spouse coming together before God and everyone who loves you, and declaring to love and choose each other.

We booked the Laurel off of a blueprint on the wall in the Laurel's original Grapevine office along with the promise that it would be completed in all the ways that they said it would — and we are SO glad we made that leap. All of our friends raved about how beautiful it was, and more importantly — that the day was as stress-free as possible because so many things were taken care of on our wedding day. We got to relax and spend time with our bridal party, and celebrate with them as we prepared for the day, instead of spending it rushing around trying to get things set up, or put in place, etc.

It truly was a blessing to have our wedding ceremony and reception at the Laurel, and we can't imagine having done it any other way!
